Kazakhstan is another visa that can be simply applied for via the post. There are a couple of tricky questions about where are you staying, which you can put a hotel in Almaty. Also you are required to add a letter stated your intentions, but this is fairly simple as you can see below.
The other bonus is this visa is only £22 ;D

Dear Sirs,
I am writing to you as I would like to visit your country as a tourist. I’m traveling overland from London to Australia by Land Rover and would like to visit Kazakhstan as part of my journey.
I would like to enter via the border crossing at Kordey from Kyrgyzstan and continue my travel on to Almaty also visiting the Valley of Castles and the Charyn Canyon before heading back into Kyrgyzstan via the border crossing south of Karkara. While in Almaty I will stay in the Holiday Inn Hotel.
I plan to enter the Kazakhstan 01/08/09 and stay until 31/08/09.
Your help to obtain the necessary visa would be much appreciated.
