When we first bought Dino we had zero off road experience and very little knowledge on the subject. We bought some books and read up, but we were still very nervous, and couldn't understand the need things like a diff lock.
So, for Ollie's birthday a couple of years ago Jenny bought him (and her) a training day with Bristol Off Road. This cost about £250 from memory. We spent the day with our instructor, David, learning all the basics of off road driving. A lot of it is very simple, especially when you slow everything down and think before acting.
